John Steele is a Canadian and a graduate of the University of Toronto Medical School. In 1964 during his postgraduate training in neurology and neuropathology with Professors Richardson and Olszewski they described progressive supranuclear palsy. Since 1983, on Guam he has investigated the unique tauopathy of that Pacific island which is termed the ALS/Parkinsonism-dementia complex of Guam and called lytico-bodig. Dr. Steele is the Physician-Director of the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Guam Memorial Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Canada, of the American College of Physicians, and of the American Neurological Association.
Pollara B. Cobb is originally from the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), but she has lived on Guam since the year 2000. She is currently an undergraduate at the University of Guam. She is pursuing a BA in chemistry and minor in mathematics. In 2010, she was awarded the female Shieh Su Ying Scholar/Athlete of the Year and the United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award. In that same year, she participated in the NIH STEP-UP Summer Research Program in Bethesda, Maryland. In 2011, she represented Guam in the World Championships for athletics in Deagu, Korea, where she set a new national record for Guam in the 100 meters. Pollara aspires to become a neurosurgeon and return to serve Guam.
